Happy Friday once again everyone. Thanks for stopping by to read this weeks Chalk Talk. Before we get started with what today’s post is all about, I wanted to first tell you all that I will be taking Monday (Christmas) off from the blog. So I will be doing my weigh in and everything else on Wednesday instead. One of the benefits of making getting fit a journey is that you can take a day or two off and not completely diminish all your hard work, more good days than bad!
So today is all about giving you all a break down of next month. January brings on the new year and that always gives you that sense of a fresh start and new beginnings. Well, to start the new year off right I am challenging myself and everyone that wants to do the same! Growing up playing sports we always had a period at the beginning of the season called “Hell Week”. This was a week dedicated to pretty much making yourself die from exhaustion. It was all about pushing it to the max the entire week and getting a big jump start to the season. I am sure a good lot of you are familiar with this, ya know, the two or three-a-days, the soreness, and the mental struggle to keep pushing yourself.
The challenge I am giving myself, and to you all following along is basically to accomplish the same thing. To get a big jump on progress for the year, and yeah, exhaustion. I’m calling it “Hell Month”.
For the month of January, I will complete all of the tasks below and do it for the entire month. This will be challenging but fun. I want to push myself in the gym and get a big jump of progress which is always super fun to see. To answer your question, yes, it’s going to be hell.
- Workout 3 times a week
- Run/Jog 6 miles a week
- Go to 1 Hot Yoga class a week (Does not count as one of your workouts)
- Drink only Green Juice 2 days a week
- Fast for 24 hours twice throughout the month
- Have only 1 cheat day the entire month
- Stay at a set calorie deficit every day (except for cheat day)
- Drink a minimum of 32 oz of water every day
I would recommend scheduling your cheat day ahead of time, and do it in the later half of the month so you have something to look forward to for most of the month.
I will be working out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
I will be running 2 miles before each workout to get in my 6 miles a week.
My juice days will be Monday and Tuesday each week, I will just be buying them every week in bottles from The Orange Peel. They have cold press juices that you can buy for like 16 oz at a time. You could also go to your local smoothie place and they usually have something like that. Just make sure its mostly greens.
I will be concentrating heavily on eating meats with every meal to make sure my protein intake is nice and high to help with hunger. I will be doing the Butcher Box program for the first time so I am excited to see how that goes as well.
I will do hot yoga probably on the weekend, like a Saturday or Sunday night, whatever works best for me really.
So there you have it. It’s not super complicated, and I think its within reason. I still want to maintain a sense of fun and not completely burn myself out throughout the month. This will give that kick start that I need on the year. As I previously wrote my news resolution is to look like I used to look when I was 19. I’ll need all the help I can get to get there by the end of the year.
I hope that as you are reading this you have even the slightest urge to follow me and join in on this challenge. I want you to do it for yourself. I want you to be in a better place this time next year. I want you to show yourself how tough you really are and how far you really can push yourself.
This challenge is just that, a challenge. Don’t worry about messing up or failing, or coming up short. I promise if you come up short, you will still be much better off for trying and you will learn a lot along the way. I know how hard this will be. It’ll be hard for me too. Sticking right on with my calories every single day is going to be very challenging for me. I’m a chronic over eater and that’s something I need to better for myself and teach myself more and more self control.
So please, if you are even thinking about trying this out and giving it a shot, let me know! Ask me any questions you may have. Tell me about what you struggle with and maybe I can help you overcome those obstacles. I would love to hear from you!
Life is stressful, and sometimes crazy. But it’s also kind of boring. You have the rest of your life to come home from work and watch T.V. So give it one month, go through the hell and see how you come out on the other side.
You’re not getting any younger.
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful time with family and friends. I hope you relax and just enjoy every minute of it. Remember that you will never be as young as you are right now. So laugh, love, eat, and wonder. Embrace the joy with all your heart and make it a holiday season to remember.
Also, we kill it in ugly sweater contest department 🙂
