Chalk Talk #9 – Welcoming the New Year

Hey everyone! Hope you all had an awesome Holiday celebration. I had an amazing time celebrating Christmas with my family.  It was pretty awesome to experience Christmas as a father for the first time. Being able to watch my daughter at 6 months old try to open presents while smiling the whole time really was amazing. It just made me that much more excited for next year when she is old enough to understand. So overall, it was a great success. Made lots of good memories and spent a lot of time with family so I am grateful for that. Although, with all that cheer and good times brought on a lot and I mean a lot of opportunity to eat. I celebrated Christmas 3 different nights all in a row. It was amazing and fun, as well as exhausting. At the end of it all, no calorie was spared. I ate till I couldn’t eat any more for all three days. Though you would probably guess that it was all part of the plan and no progress was lost. Unfortunately that just isn’t true. I now know that three days in a row was honestly too much. Taking one day off is more than fine, not three. I for sure put on some unwanted fat in those three days. It’s hard to say just how much, but I know that just those three days put me a little further back from my goal, which sucks. I won’t really know the actual impacts for about a week once I get back on a normal eating schedule and habit. The important thing from here is to just take it as a lesson learned and move forward. I know that I messed up and I’ll be the first to admit it, but I’m not gonna let it make a big difference in my progress. I went over the top with it all, and probably put on 1-2 pounds of fat. I ate a ridiculous amount of food people. Like I said though, I will just pick up right where I left on and keep moving forward.

Good news is, even with my diet being way off this week, my workouts haven’t fell by the way side, though I am a day behind this week. I have felt just as strong as usual too so all that junk food at least didn’t kill my performance in the gym. I actually progressed on my squats, deadlifts, crunches, and incline dumbbell fly’s this week.

Also so pretty good news, I did my body fat test today! So now I will be able to start tracking that at least once a month or so.

With all the madness of the holidays and the slight regression in progress as far as weight loss goes I couldn’t be more excited to start “Hell Month” on Monday. I really need this kick start and renewed commitment of progress. So for those of you didn’t read about that I will refresh your memory now.

Hell Month is for the month of January. It consist of the following requirements for the entire month.

  • Workout 3 times a week
  • Run/Jog 6 miles a week
  • Go to 1 Hot Yoga class a week (Does not count as one of your workouts)
  • Drink only Green Juice 2 days a week
  • Fast for 24 hours twice throughout the month
  • Have only 1 cheat day the entire month
  • Stay at a set calorie deficit every day (except for cheat day)
  • Drink a minimum of 32 oz of water every day

I went shopping earlier today to get all prepared the first week. I found some awesome cold pressed green juice at Costco for pretty cheap too so that’ll be my go to juice for the 2 days a week that I am drinking that.

I if you are reading this that you are ready to take the jump with me and put yourself through hell! Let me know if you are doing it with me!

Let’s make 2018 the year when we finally make our dreams a reality. The only thing standing in your way is you. You can get fit and lose weight if you truly want to. Everything else is an excuse.

You’re not getting any younger.
